Han-Way Huang is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Technology at Minnesota State University, Mankato. A member of both IEEE and ASEE, he has 25 years of teaching experience in microprocessors and microcontrollers. Good Book for Those New to Microcontrollers

I would recommend this book to anybody new to microcontrollers or the HCS12 family. The book does a great job of covering programming of the HCS12 in assembly and C. There are plenty of examples in the book and included on the CD-ROM to guide you along. Additionally, the book provides a basic guide to the C language and the use of several different compilers. Out of all of the microcontroller books and textbooks I've used, I can say with confidence this one is the best.

I do not think there is a better book. There are examples available within the book

The only reason I did not give this book five stars is due to the price. It is an expensive book, and it is one which I was required to buy for one of my classes. If you expect to open the book and be able to copy code from it into an IDE, compile, and use it, then this is not the book to get. However, if you want to learn about the underlying hardware of a CPU, and how everything from interrupts to analog to digital conversion is accomplished on the HCS12, I do not think there is a better book. There are examples available within the book, catered to a variety of HCS12 based microcontrollers, however, some of them use definitions which are defined on the author's included CD, which I did not make much use of. The content of this book is spectacular, and I can honestly say I have learned a lot about how processors actually function through reading it.

not a complelling follow up to vector prime

i dont know where to begin. i love star wars and the previous book vector prime, was a gripping book with a MAJOR character death
this could be a spoiler but i think its common knowledge by now who it is.
but this was the blandest follow up they could have written. maybe it would have been exciting if i had read it way back on release but now know the outcomes it was boring. also all the stories i have heard over the years about the "unstoppable " yuzhan vong seems greatly exagerated as right now they seem like stock alien invaders despite the major events in the previous book. i didnt think any book could bore me more than the crystal star did (which on rereading was better than i remembered) or planet of twilight(which was worse than i remembered) anyway on to the book.
we get one scene of han solo still moping over chewbacca's death then we dont see him again the remainder of the book.
theres almost no action this book. we get a very boring story of luke and jacen investigating the vong presence on belkadan
where jacen gets a vision of him self as a hero saving some prisoners only to get him self in trouble to have luke end up rescuing him.
while anakin solo and mara jade spend time on dantooine in an attempt to help mara fight her illness and to help anakin learn to not abuse the force as much. jaina spends time with rogue squadron. eventually all three story lines culminate at dantooine for a battle against the vong and even that is blandly written. leia luke and the others end up protecting colonists we dont know and don't really care about. in the end nothing really happens. i recommend this for hardcore star wars completists but even then its bland read. i wanted to give it 2 stars but i dont hate it i DO like the book but its just a very bland read.

When I first started reading this book, I didn't know what to expect. Vector Prime had totally blown me away so I wasn't sure if DT: Onslaught would be able to compare. Well, it didn't, but that's not such a bad thing. This was still a great book. It was just different from Vector Prime.
First of all, Vector Prime really focused on the motivations and politics of the Yuzhan Vong. That's probably what interested me most about it. The Empire had grown boring and repetitive, so it was cool to see another threat be shaped. Dark Tide on the other hand showed the Yuzhan Vong in a different light. THey were cruel and ruthless, showing no mercy. While it was still interesting the relative lack of explanation kind of grated on me. The end of the story helped relieve some of this, though.
The best part about this book for me though was the focus spent on Corran Horn, my favorite Jedi by far. Horn is in fine form here, displaying his CorSec attitude & logic with Jedi insight.
All in all this was a fitting continuation of the New Jedi Order series, which I have enjoyed immensely.

A real gripper hard to put down

I picked this book up after reading Vector Prime and this is an excellent book. Great story with such an intense plot that I had a hard time putting down the book. The Yuuzhan Vong are really turning up the heat on the New Republic and of course the senate is more of a hinderance to themselves than the enemy. The enemy is fascinating and so is their technology.
The political power play is covering up the threat and stopping the real heroes from doing their job. The New Republic is in trouble and I can't wait to finish the next book. Pick it up for an intense action in a universe like no other.

An excellent and easy to read introduction to Game Theory

This book covers all the elements of Game Theory, emphasizing intuition over mathematical formalism. The philosophical aspects are also given a thorough treatment. The 8 appendices provide a more formal exposition of several key concepts such as the Minmax Theorem, the geometry of equilibria and Linear programming. The book has not changed much since its publication in 1957, but it is by no means archaic. Even for those who have a modern and more rigorous textbook, "Games and Decisions" is Highly recommended as a supplement. There is something for everyone in it.

Overwhelming for your average liberal arts major

You need calculus to appreciate this one.

But it is still very good. Like a dinner made by a top chef with the finest possible materials, it still may not be to your personal taste, no matter how well made it is. "Games and Decisions" is of limited utility for non-mathematicians, especially the attorneys and liberal arts majors that make decisions for nations.

The maths are mostly over my head, and I was only really able to follow one out of four pages (on the average) of the book. Nevertheless, from what I could appreciate, I learned a lot about the nature of utility, reiterative games, non-zero sum games, conditions of certainty and uncertainty, etc, as well as a lot of 'special case' games in the appendices.

I can see that this is the work of masters, but it is not something I can fully appreciate.

From this investigation, it can be deduced that better vegetative propagation of black pepper from leafless hardwood cuttings can be attained when basal cuttings were taken from actively growing stock plant and grown in 1:1 mixture of Fine sand:Forest soil and 1:1:1 mixture of Fine sand:Forest soil: Partially decomposed coffee husk.

A battle-scarred veteran of Korea, Hackworth served successive tours in Vietnam, becoming increasingly alarmed by declining standards in the Army and the dead-end policy in Southeast Asia. Matters came to a head during a 1971 television interview in which he criticized Army leadership, training and tactics in the field. For this the colonel was shamefully hounded into premature retirement, a potential Army superstar who was suddenly perceived as a dangerous renegade, according to this memoir written with freelancer Sherman. The engrossing autobiography of a fierce and fiercely outspoken warrior, it is also an inside account of the demoralization of a once-proud army during a period when "no one could afford to tell the truth, make an error, or admit to ignorance." The colonel makes sweeping condemnations in this passionate, profane, sometimes intemperate book (admirers of military historian S.L.A. Marshall will cringe at Hackworth's savage attack). In this book America's most decorated living soldier tells his life story in formidable detail with outstanding battlefield realism. Colonel Hackworth left the Army and went into exile over the conduct of the Vietnam War. Like all good autobiographies, his often tells more than he intended. This is as earnest and self-revealing as Anthony B. Herbert's Herbert: The Making of a Soldier (LJ 9/1/82), but less laconic. A rousing good book which will be useful to military professionals as well. Military Book Club main selection.

Excellent book. Well written, easily read, thought provoking. Is long, but not cumbersome.
I first read 'About Face' written by Col. David Hackworth during the late 1980s. I found it extremely valuable in helping me...a woman with little knowledge of anything military, understand better my children's dad, a land based Viet Nam combat vet and the problems he had to deal with before his death.
As the wife of yet a second Viet Nam combat vet, special forces, I suggest this book for anyone who wants a better understanding of the debt of gratitude and respect we citizens owe those willing to serve in The United States Military.

should be required reading for all seving military leaders

I first came to hear of ABOUT FACE from a friend and fellow NCO in Korea. He said I might think it was good, Was that an understatement. I read About Face in one fourteen hour plane ride back to Korea. I've read it three more times so far and recommend it to all my friends deserving the title Non-Commisioned Officer. I truly believe that all military leaders should read this and take from it; Hack's wisdom and experiance dealing with the military, Integrity and soldiering.

A Great Man, A Great Book, A Great Read

I bought this book when I was about 11 years old and a big fan of "war stories". I am now approaching twenty and have read this book at least once a year since first purchasing it, to the extent that it is now in three parts and the photographs have fallen out. This book is an intense, gripping, readable but most of all honest and believable account of one of America's greatest warriors and his experiences...from the forested slopes of Trieste in 1946 to being chased around Washington DC by Army Intell goons in 1971, this book, while entertaining, will also teach you everything you need to know about duty, honour,bravery and honest patriotism, qualities that come hard to find in the era of Iran-Contra, Tailhook, Whitewater and the like...
This book will make you laugh, cry and think.
Please, read it.
